YouTube Music on Android now lets you hum to search for songs

Ever had a tune stuck in your head but couldn’t remember the lyrics? Well, YouTube Music’s latest feature for Android is here to the rescue! It’s like having a built-in Shazam, but even better, because it can recognize your humming, whistling, singing, or even a recording of a song.

If you’re lucky enough to have the update, you’ll notice a new waveform icon next to the usual microphone icon in the search bar. Just tap it, and start humming your mystery tune. In my tests, it identified actual recordings with lightning speed, putting Shazam to shame.

I even put it through its paces with my own vocal stylings, humming, whistling, and singing various songs. It nailed most of them with a few hilarious misses. But hey, nobody’s perfect, right?

While it’s not yet widely available on iOS, some lucky users have reportedly spotted the feature on YouTube Music for iOS as well. So, if you’re an Android user, give it a try and see if you can finally identify that earworm that’s been bugging you!
