Spotify has once again increased the price of its Premium subscription in the United States, surpassing Apple Music’s cost without offering features like lossless audio or Spatial Audio. The price hike, effective immediately, affects all Premium tiers: Individual, Duo, and Family.
While Spotify claims the increase is necessary to “continue to invest in and innovate,” subscribers are questioning the value proposition, especially since Apple Music includes lossless audio and Spatial Audio at no extra charge.Additionally, Spotify’s Duo plan now costs the same as Apple Music’s Family plan, which accommodates up to six users.
Despite expanding into podcasts and audiobooks, Spotify has yet to deliver on the long-awaited lossless audio feature, a staple in Apple Music. While Spotify is expected to eventually offer this feature, it will likely come at an additional cost, further widening the price gap between the two services.
This marks Spotify’s second price increase in recent years, following Apple Music’s last hike in October 2022. Although there’s no word on whether Apple will follow suit, this latest move by Spotify has ignited a debate among music lovers about the value and fairness of streaming subscription prices.
