Philips Hue unveils AI assistant alongside Play Wall Washer smart light

Philips Hue has introduced its first AI-powered assistant for smart lighting, marking a notable update for users seeking more intuitive control over their home lighting systems. Currently available in select countries, the AI assistant is scheduled to launch in the UK this July, with a broader international rollout expected by August.

The new AI feature integrates into the Philips Hue app, allowing users to interact with their lighting setup through natural language commands. Whether typed or spoken, the assistant interprets requests related to mood or scene preferences and suggests appropriate lighting settings. If an exact match isn’t found in the existing library, it can generate new lighting scenes tailored to the user’s input. This approach aims to simplify the customization process, especially for those who prefer conversational controls over manual adjustments.

At present, the AI assistant is accessible in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg for English-speaking users, with expansion plans for other markets soon. Alongside this upgrade, Philips Hue intends to introduce additional tools, including an in-app chatbot feature, later this year to enhance user interaction further.

In conjunction with the AI assistant announcement, Philips Hue has also officially revealed the Play Wall Washer, a new smart light designed for immersive ambient lighting. Initially leaked by Amazon, this device is built with aluminum and features ColorCast projection technology. It delivers dynamic full-color gradients and mood lighting effects, making it suitable for syncing with entertainment content like movies, games, and music.

The Play Wall Washer integrates seamlessly into existing Philips Hue ecosystems, offering users control over brightness, color intensity, placement, and effect speed through the Hue app. While it’s optimized for entertainment setups, it also functions effectively as a standalone light source.

This new product is now available directly from Philips Hue, with pricing starting at £169.99 or $219.99. Overall, these updates reflect Philips Hue’s ongoing efforts to enhance smart lighting convenience and customization, offering users more options to tailor their home environments with greater ease.
