Apple and Disney teamed up for a special Star Wars Day (May the 4th) ad showcasing the iPhone 15’s “Precision Finding for Find My Friends” feature. The commercial follows a Mandalorian cosplayer (real-life fan Owen Jardiniano) navigating a convention to find his fellow Mandalorians.
Directed by Kim Gehrig, the ad is packed with Star Wars Easter eggs. Lucasfilm revealed an impressive fan involvement,with over 300 submissions and 172 fans contributing to the project – the largest fan-driven collaboration in Lucasfilm’s history.
The “May the 4th” pun originated in 1978 from the famous Star Wars line “May the Force be with you.” Its popularity surged with social media. Disney is celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace with theatrical re-releases and the debut of the animated series Tales of the Empire on Disney+.
