Threads, the text-based social media platform by Meta, has introduced a new feature that allows users to express their preferences on posts in a very Tinder-esque way: by swiping.
Simply swipe right on a post to indicate you like it, or swipe left to show you’re not interested. It’s a quick and intuitive way to curate your feed and provide feedback to the algorithm.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Threads and Instagram, explained in a post that these swipe signals will be used to tailor your feed, showing you more of what you like and less of what you don’t. This should help you discover content that resonates with you and filter out the less appealing stuff.
However, there’s a catch: you can only swipe while scrolling through your main feed. When viewing a single post, swiping right takes you back to the feed, and swiping left does nothing.
While the feature seems promising, its effectiveness remains to be seen. Will Threads truly deliver on its promise of a more personalized feed based on your swipes? Only time will tell.
Some users have already found the feature helpful, especially in filtering out unwanted ads or content. Others are hoping it will help them curate a more engaging and relevant experience on the platform.
