nstagram is preparing to introduce long-requested functionality that gives users more control over how their profile grid is displayed. Soon, users will be able to rearrange the layout of their grid posts without deleting or reposting them—an update that significantly changes how profiles can be curated on the platform.
Currently, the Instagram grid is chronological, placing posts in the order they’re shared. While users can pin select posts to the top or tweak preview images, there’s been no way to manually adjust the grid itself. That’s about to change. Instagram says it’s rolling out the ability to edit the grid layout, allowing for more personalized profile presentation, particularly for those who treat their grid as a cohesive visual portfolio or brand showcase.
When this feature launches, users will be able to long-press a post in their grid to reveal a new option called “Edit Grid.”Selecting this will bring up a new interface that displays all posts in their current arrangement, allowing users to drag and drop them into any preferred order. This will give creators, influencers, and anyone with a visual theme more flexibility in curating the flow and aesthetic of their profile.
Alongside grid editing, Instagram is also testing another subtle but significant change: the ability to post directly to your profile grid without pushing the content to followers’ feeds. This offers a quieter way to share images that fit the look of a profile but may not warrant full attention via the main feed or algorithmic distribution. While such posts are likely to get less engagement, the trade-off could be worthwhile for users focused on maintaining a certain grid design without overwhelming their audience.
Though these features aren’t live yet, Instagram says they’re coming soon. Together, they mark a shift in how users can manage their content—more like a personal webpage or digital portfolio than a running feed of updates. For users who obsess over symmetry, color balance, or storytelling within their grid, these tools offer welcome creative freedom.
As Instagram continues to balance between algorithm-driven discovery and user-controlled design, this update suggests the platform is still invested in letting people shape how they present themselves—at least within the bounds of their own profiles.
