The Huawei Mate XT has officially launched in China, and hands-on videos are giving us a glimpse of its unique tri-fold design in action. While incredibly slim when fully unfolded, the visible display creases may be a point of contention for some.
When opened up, the Mate XT is a mere 3.6mm thick, noticeably thinner than the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Folded up, it’s slightly thicker than its competitors, but the trade-off is the flexibility of three screens. Early videos show off multi-window multitasking and a clever case that doubles as a stand.
The Mate XT’s display seems responsive, but the creases on both hinges are quite visible at certain angles. This is a common issue with current foldable technology and might bother some users, although they’re less noticeable when viewed head-on.

The Mate XT represents a bold step forward in foldable phone technology. While there’s room for improvement in display crease visibility, its innovative design and features like multi-window support could set a new standard for foldable devices.
