Google has introduced a new icon for its Gemini app on both Android and iOS this week, aligning its branding with the company’s established suite of colourful app logos. The updated icon features the familiar four Google colours—blue, red, yellow, and green—with a gradient at the centre-left reminiscent of the Google ‘G’ logo.
The icon’s design has shifted from sharp to rounded points, creating a friendlier and more approachable aesthetic. The new symbol is also slightly larger, occupying more space within its white circular background, enhancing visibility on home screens by avoiding thin lines that can fade out at smaller sizes.
With this change, the Gemini icon now visually integrates with other core Google apps, signalling the company’s continued focus and confidence in Gemini as a central AI platform within its ecosystem. The sparkle-inspired shape remains distinct enough to avoid confusion with other first-party applications despite the shared colour palette.
On Android, the update brings additional improvements to the Gemini homescreen widget. The widget now includes new shortcuts for Video and Screenshare, enabling direct access to Gemini Live modes without navigating through the app interface. While these enhancements improve convenience, the widget has become slightly less dense overall, featuring one fewer shortcut in some size configurations.

At widget sizes of 3×3 and above, users will see eight shortcuts:
- Open app (with keyboard activated)
- Voice input
- Camera
- Gallery
- Files
- Video
- Screenshare
- Live
Additionally, the “Ask Gemini” text field has been simplified to a “Gemini” bar, removing the Dynamic Color background to create a cleaner look.
On iOS, version 1.2025.2562103 of the Gemini app rolled out on Wednesday, adding the ability to search past conversations, a feature previously available only on the web. Users can access this by tapping the chat icon in the top-left corner to reveal the new search field. This conversation search functionality has not yet been introduced to Android.
As of Friday, Android users can download version 1.0.776555963 of the Gemini app via the Play Store. The new icon is expected to arrive soon on gemini.google.com, completing the branding update across platforms.
The redesign and added functionalities reflect Google’s continued investment in positioning Gemini as an accessible, integrated AI assistant for daily tasks and creative workflows. While the visual update is subtle, it represents a broader move to standardise Google’s branding and emphasise Gemini’s place among its flagship apps.
