ASUS’ ROG (Republic of Gamers) has revealed a new iteration of its popular handheld gaming console, the ROG Ally X,ahead of Computex 2024. While it retains the same powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, the Ally X boasts several key upgrades based on user feedback.
Notable improvements include a larger 1TB SSD, expandable via an M.2 2280 slot, and 24GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM for even smoother gameplay in demanding titles. Battery life has also been doubled to 80Wh, ensuring longer gaming sessions on the go.
The Ally X’s design has also been refined, with improved ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. The chassis now features deeper handles, rounded edges, and redesigned buttons and joysticks for a more comfortable experience. Two USB-C ports, including a Thunderbolt-compatible one, offer enhanced connectivity options. Thermal management has also been improved with new fans and an additional exhaust vent.

However, it’s important to note that the original ROG Ally experienced some hardware issues, including overheating problems that affected SD card performance. ASUS has historically faced criticism for its warranty service, though recent improvements have been reported. Potential buyers should be aware of these concerns and monitor user feedback as the Ally X becomes available.
The ROG Ally X is expected in June on the ASUS eShop.
