Apple’s M3 Ultra chip pushes performance boundaries

Apple has unveiled its latest silicon marvel, the M3 Ultra, boasting unparalleled performance and capabilities. This new chip sets a new standard for professional users, offering significant advancements in CPU, GPU, memory, and connectivity.   

Built using Apple’s UltraFusion packaging architecture, the M3 Ultra combines two M3 Max dies, resulting in a chip with 184 billion transistors. This innovative design enables the M3 Ultra to deliver exceptional performance while maintaining impressive power efficiency.   

Key features of the M3 Ultra include:

  • Up to 32-core CPU: With 24 performance cores and eight efficiency cores, the M3 Ultra delivers a substantial performance boost compared to its predecessors.   
  • Up to 80-core GPU: This is the largest GPU ever in an Apple chip, providing up to 2x faster graphics performance than the M2 Ultra.

  • Thunderbolt 5 connectivity: With data transfer speeds up to 120 Gb/s, Thunderbolt 5 enables faster connections to external devices and expansion options.   
  • Enhanced AI capabilities: The M3 Ultra is optimized for AI and machine learning tasks, with a powerful 32-core Neural Engine and dedicated ML accelerators.
