CMF’s next audio products have leaked two days before launch. The Nothing sub-brand has confirmed the CMF Speaker S and CMF Speaker M will be announced on Monday, October 12, but a Sri Lankan retailer, Life Mobile, has already published listings for both, revealing their designs, most of their specifications and local pricing.
The design is the main talking point. Both speakers are shaped like a milk carton, with a peaked top and a carry handle built into the frame. The leaked images show a matte black body with a CMF logo on the front, a small round button on top and an orange knob next to the handle. The Speaker S has a single large circular grille, while the taller Speaker M has two grilles stacked vertically. It fits CMF’s usual approach of making cheap hardware stand out through design rather than premium materials.
The knob may matter more than it first appears. It looks like the rotating control CMF has put on its phones, and teaser material suggests it could be interchangeable, similar to CMF’s swappable phone covers. None of the retail listings confirm this, so it should be treated as unconfirmed until Monday.
Specifications for the Speaker S are fairly detailed. It uses a 40mm full-range driver with a 50mm passive bass radiator, rated at 12W RMS with 360-degree sound. It has Bluetooth 5.4, a 2,500mAh battery rated for up to 18 hours, USB-C charging and IP54 splash resistance, and weighs 580g.
The Speaker M listing is less clear. It mentions dual drivers, a bass boost feature, Bluetooth 5.4, 18 hours of playback, IP54 protection, USB-C and a low-battery indicator, plus a volume knob that works without an app. It also lists 12W output, the same as the smaller model, which seems strange for a bigger, more expensive speaker. The battery capacity and weight are missing. Until CMF publishes official figures, it’s unclear what the extra money actually buys beyond a second driver and a bigger body.
Colours also look like they’ll go beyond the listings. The retailer shows the Speaker S in Carbon Black and the Speaker M in Carbon Black and White, while images posted on X show the Speaker M in blue and orange as well.
Life Mobile prices the Speaker S at LKR 26,500, about $80, and the Speaker M at LKR 39,500, about $120. Regional prices often differ from global ones, so those figures may not match CMF’s official pricing. The more important question is whether CMF, which follows its Clip Pro earbuds and is in the middle of a planned move to majority Indian ownership, can make a budget speaker that sounds as good as it looks.
