Apple says “Let Loose” – iPad updates incoming on May 7th

Apple has announced a dedicated iPad event for May 7th titled “Let Loose.” The event will kick off at 10 AM Eastern, and will be live-streamed on the company website, Apple TV app, and YouTube.

Apple’s iPad lineup is long overdue for an update, with no major releases in 2023. Rumors point to a double bill – exciting refreshes for both the iPad Air and iPad Pro. The event invite graphic hints at a possible new Apple Pencil, potentially featuring expanded gesture support.

Both the 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Air models could see some changes. While precise details are still under wraps, there’s the potential for upgraded processors and possibly even the introduction of a new color option or two.

The iPad Pro update is where things get interesting. Many anticipate a major leap – the switch from mini-LED backlighting to OLED displays. This change would likely result in even deeper blacks, more vivid colors, and improved power efficiency. Beyond the screen, it’s possible we’ll also see a boost in processing power.

While the iPad Air and iPad Pro take center stage, it’s unlikely the entry-level iPad or the iPad mini will get any attention this time around. Most predictions point to a fall 2024 update for those models.

Why the “Let Loose” Title

Apple is usually tight-lipped about specific details before their events, but the “Let Loose” theme is intriguing. It could refer to:

  • Apple Pencil Upgrades: Enhanced gesture controls or drawing capabilities might bring a new level of creative freedom.
  • iPad Power Unleashed: More powerful processors could pave the way for even smoother multitasking and demanding app usage.

Regardless of what “Let Loose” ultimately means, it’s clear that Apple sees continued potential in the iPad lineup. The May 7th event will undoubtedly reveal some exciting updates that could entice both new and current iPad enthusiasts.
