Apple debuts short film Big Man shot on iPhone 16 Pro

Apple has released a new installment in its ongoing “Shot on iPhone” campaign, this time showcasing the capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro through a short film titled “Big Man.” The film stars British rapper Michael Omari, known as Stormzy, and was directed by Aneil Karia, whose previous work includes “Surge” and “The Long Goodbye.”

In “Big Man,” Stormzy plays Tenzman, a disillusioned musician whose encounter with two spirited children leads him down a path of rediscovery and creative revival. The narrative blends personal reflection with visual intimacy, capitalizing on the iPhone 16 Pro’s upgraded cinematic features to support a compact yet emotionally resonant storyline.

The accompanying promotional material for the iPhone 16 Pro emphasizes its enhanced video recording capabilities, including the ability to shoot in 4K at 120 frames per second. Additional tools like Camera Control, Audio Mix, and playback speed adjustments are also highlighted. These features aim to provide more granular control over filming and post-production, aligning the device more closely with professional video equipment.

While the film serves as a creative demonstration of what can be achieved using a smartphone, it also subtly reinforces Apple’s broader messaging about the iPhone as a legitimate tool for serious filmmakers. However, it remains to be seen how frequently everyday users will make use of these more advanced filming options, or whether such features mainly appeal to a niche set of creators.

Nonetheless, “Big Man” adds another chapter to the evolving narrative of smartphone-led cinematography. Apple continues to use projects like these to blur the lines between consumer tech and professional media production, leveraging recognizable talent and polished storytelling to promote the technical progress of its flagship device.
