Apple’s AirTags are a convenient way to keep track of your belongings. But like any electronic device, their batteries eventually need to be replaced. This guide will walk you through the simple process of replacing the battery in your AirTag.
What to Do When Your AirTag Battery is Low
Your iPhone will notify you through the Find My app when your AirTag’s battery is running low. You can also check the battery level within the Find My app itself.
Replacing the AirTag Battery
To replace the battery, you’ll need a standard CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery. Important note: Be sure to avoid batteries with a bitterant coating, as these can be difficult to use with AirTags.
Steps to Replace the Battery
- With the white side of your AirTag facing down, place it on a flat surface.
- Apply firm, downward pressure while rotating the cover counter-clockwise. This will loosen the cover.
- Once loose, remove the cover completely.
- Take your new CR2032 battery and insert it into the AirTag, ensuring the positive side faces upwards. A chime will play to confirm that the battery is inserted correctly.
- Realign the tabs on the cover with the corresponding slots on the AirTag body.
- Rotate the cover clockwise to secure it back onto the AirTag.
The entire process of replacing your AirTag’s battery should take no more than two minutes.
That’s it! Your AirTag should now be good to go for another extended period of time.
