Sonos considers hitting the reset button: old app may make a comeback amidst new software fiasco

Sonos, in a move that screams “Houston, we have a problem,” is reportedly contemplating a major course correction:bringing back its old app. Yes, you read that right. The company is apparently so deep in the quagmire of its disastrous new app redesign that it’s considering a full-blown retreat.

This potential U-turn speaks volumes about the severity of the situation. The new app, released in May, was met with a tidal wave of user backlash, leaving Sonos scrambling to fix a litany of bugs and performance issues. It seems even the prospect of restoring the old app, with all its nostalgic familiarity, is on the table.

Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, while still maintaining that the redesign was the right long-term move, has admitted the execution was a major misstep. The company has delayed new product launches to focus on fixing the app and is facing significant financial costs.

The situation is a stark reminder that even the most well-intentioned tech projects can go horribly wrong. Will Sonos actually bring back the old app? Only time will tell. But one thing is clear: this is a defining moment for the company, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
