Apple finally folded. The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, goes on sale in the UAE today, Friday 23 October, starting at AED 8,499.
After years of rumours, leaks and “iPhone Fold” mock-ups, it’s real, and it’s in stores. Pre-orders opened on 16 October through the Apple UAE online store and the Apple Store app. From today, it’s available in Apple Stores, online, and via delivery. The UAE is part of Apple’s first launch wave of more than 70 countries, so no waiting around this time.
It’s also the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever made. So the real question isn’t whether it’s cool. It’s whether it’s AED 3,000-more-than-a-Pro-Max cool.
What it costs in the UAE
The iPhone Duo comes in four storage tiers and two colours, Night Sky and Star White. Every model gets 12GB of RAM.
| Storage | UAE price |
|---|---|
| 256GB | AED 8,499 |
| 512GB | AED 9,349 |
| 1TB | AED 11,049 |
| 2TB | AED 13,599 |
For context, the base Duo costs exactly AED 3,000 more than an iPhone 18 Pro Max, which starts at AED 5,499. Max it out at 2TB and you’re north of AED 13,500 before you’ve even bought a case. Apple’s UAE store does offer monthly payment plans, subject to eligibility.
Two screens, one hinge
The Duo is a book-style foldable. Closed, you get a 5.4-inch outer display. Open it up and there’s a 7.6-inch inner screen, the largest display Apple has ever put on an iPhone. Apple says it’s 50% bigger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both panels are 120Hz OLED.
Apple is pitching it as the thinnest iPhone ever when unfolded. The frame and hinge cover are Grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back.
The fold also unlocks new tricks. You can stand the Duo half-open on a table to watch shows, follow a workout, or take a FaceTime call hands-free. There’s a Camera Control button, but no Action button this time.
The guts
Inside is the A20 Pro chip with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, built for heavy AI workloads. A vapor chamber handles cooling, so long gaming sessions shouldn’t turn it into a hand warmer.
Power comes from an iPhone-first dual-battery system. Going eSIM-only freed up internal space for more battery capacity. MagSafe wireless charging is supported.
On the back is a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system. Up front, a 12MP Center Stage camera, plus Apple’s first under-display FaceTime camera on the inner screen. Duo-exclusive camera features include:
- Duo Preview: shows your subject a live preview on the outer screen
- Smart Take: snaps the photo automatically when everyone’s ready
- Kid Cue: plays animations to grab a child’s attention
One catch: there’s no telephoto lens. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 has one.

The extras (and the extra costs)
| Item | UAE price |
|---|---|
| iPhone Duo Case (sand, navy blue) | AED 319 |
| iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand (navy blue, taupe) | AED 529 |
| AppleCare+ | AED 1,349 |
- Trade-in: Apple offers up to AED 3,260 in credit for an iPhone 13 or newer, depending on model and condition.
- eSIM only: no physical SIM tray. e& and du both support it, and UAE iPhones have been eSIM-only for a while anyway.
- Repairs: Apple hasn’t published full UAE repair prices yet. The inner screen’s protective top layer is replaceable, but only by Apple.
So, should you fold?
The iPhone Duo isn’t trying to be a sensible upgrade. It’s Apple’s boldest iPhone in years, and it’s priced like it knows it.
What you’re really buying is a new way to use an iPhone: a phone that turns into a small tablet, stands on its own for movies and FaceTime, and runs iOS built around that bigger screen. If you’ve been waiting for Apple to do a foldable its way, today’s your day. If you’re more cautious, it’s worth seeing how the hinge and crease hold up after a few months of real-world use.
