Meta AI gains planning and app connection features

Meta has begun rolling out expanded capabilities for its Meta AI assistant, powered by the newly announced Muse Spark 1.1 model. The update allows the system to move beyond answering questions and generating text into planning multi-step tasks, connecting to a user’s email and calendar, producing slide decks, and following through on requests with less constant prompting.

In practical terms, a user can describe a kitchen renovation and receive a mood board assembled from Marketplace listings that match stated style and budget preferences. A request for half-marathon training produces a week-by-week schedule adjusted to available time, delivered automatically each Monday. Birthday dinner planning can include restaurant suggestions cross-checked against the calendar. Daily briefings pull calendar events, flag conflicts, and summarize relevant changes at a chosen time. Research queries synthesize web sources, academic papers, and public posts from Meta’s own platforms, while slide generation turns that material into visual summaries. Users can interrupt and redirect the process in real time, and finished outputs are stored in a single workspace for later revision or sharing.

These features place Meta AI within the broader shift toward agentic systems—software that attempts to execute sequences of actions rather than simply respond. Earlier digital assistants from various companies made similar claims of proactive help, yet most remained limited by brittle integrations, incomplete context, and frequent need for correction. Muse Spark 1.1 appears designed to reduce that friction by maintaining longer task continuity and linking more directly to personal data sources. Connecting to email and calendar, however, raises familiar questions about data access, retention, and the accuracy of automated decisions made on a user’s behalf. An AI that can rearrange plans or generate shopping lists without repeated confirmation increases convenience while also increasing the cost of any mistake.

The company frames the work as progress toward “personal superintelligence,” language that overstates current technical reality. What is shipping is a more persistent task manager with improved planning and retrieval, not an autonomous intellect. Rollout begins in selected markets through the Meta AI app and meta.ai website, with expansion to additional countries and surfaces such as WhatsApp expected in coming weeks. Users retain the option of ordinary question-and-answer interaction or private Incognito chats.

Whether the new features prove reliably useful will depend on how well the system handles edge cases, respects stated preferences over time, and avoids the overconfidence that has undermined previous generations of digital helpers. For now the update simply extends the range of what Meta AI can attempt to complete without constant supervision.
