Twitter experiments with “buy” feature

Twitter has been evolving in the past few years (sometimes not in a favourable direction) and in their latest experiment, users will be given the option to purchase products directly from within a tweet.

At the moment the service is rolled out to select users in the USA with some partnered brands, but if this eventually gets the greenlight for the masses it could be a huge deal for companies, brands, artists, and charities. Users typically do not want like to “leave” a page and go to a company’s site and browse the catalogue and sign up for payments; the ability to purchase products from within twitter opens up opportunities for purchases that would have otherwise had higher drop-out rates.

As for payment credentials, Twitter promises that they are securely encrypted. More information on this will be rolled out in the following weeks.
