“A Haunting in Venice” is adapted from the 1969 novel Hallowe’en Party, While the book was set in the americas the movie is set in post-World War 2 Venice. The movie starts off with an element of thriller within the first few minutes and It will send shivers down your spine, at least it did for me.

The story follows the incredibly sharp investigator Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh), who takes the role of the unwilling participant in the story and claims to be “retired” from the life of sleuthing, that is, until an old friend from the past makes a smashing entry into Poirots lazy afternoon.

Vitale Portfoglio (Riccardo Scamarcio), Poirot’s bodyguard and a former Italian police, serves as a tough as nails bodyguard, ensuring that no man may interrupt the famed investigator.

The old friend who is also the famed mystery author Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey). Oliver, who is also the reason for Poirot’s fame has now returned with ulterior motives to lure the once-famous detective to a new perplexing mystery.

Oliver, who is also perplexed by the medium’s abilities, Joyce Reynolds (Michelle Yeoh) has been invited to Venice for a seance. The requestor of this seance is former opera star Rowena Drake (Kelly Reilly), who is Grieving the death of her only child daughter Alicia (Rowan Robinson).

The best part is left for the last: the home where Ms. Drake lives is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of dead children.
