Apple TV is heading into September 2026 with a busy slate of originals, returning series and some unusually big-name talent, giving subscribers plenty to watch just as the streaming service becomes more expensive.
The month’s major releases span action comedy, crime drama, espionage and celebrity-driven comedy, while established Apple shows including Ted Lasso, Dark Matter, Silo and Women in Blue continue their current seasons.
September starts with Mayday on September 4. The Cold War-set action comedy stars Ryan Reynolds as US Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, who finds himself stranded behind enemy lines. Kenneth Branagh plays former KGB agent Nikolai Ustinov, whose fascination with American culture sets up an unlikely partnership between the pair. It is essentially Apple’s star-powered attempt at combining the spy movie and buddy comedy formulas.
Things become considerably darker on September 9 with Last Seen. The six-part series adapts Ryan David Jahn’s novel The Dispatcher and follows Ian Ridley, a former detective now working as a police dispatcher. More than a decade after the disappearance of his daughter Maggie, Ridley receives a call from a teenage girl and begins to suspect she could be the daughter he lost. Patrick Brammall leads the series, which launches with two episodes before moving to weekly releases.
Apple’s most established September arrival comes one week later. Slow Horses Season 6 premieres September 16, bringing Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb and the dysfunctional Slough House operation back for another run. The espionage drama has become one of Apple TV’s unusually dependable franchises: Season 7 has already been confirmed, removing some of the uncertainty that typically surrounds streaming renewals.
Then there is Brothers, arriving September 23. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson play fictionalised versions of themselves in a comedy built around the long-running real-world speculation that the two actors could actually be related. The premise turns that celebrity curiosity into the central joke, exploring what happens when their friendship is disrupted by the possibility that they might genuinely be brothers. Two episodes arrive at launch, followed by weekly instalments.
September is also unusually packed with ongoing Apple TV programming. Ted Lasso Season 4 continues every Wednesday throughout the month, alongside Women in Blue Season 2. Dark Matter Season 2 occupies Fridays, while Silo reaches its Season 3 finale on September 4 ahead of its planned final season.
September ultimately looks like a strong month for Apple TV, balancing familiar heavy hitters with several new series carrying genuine potential. Slow Horses and Ted Lasso provide the dependable names, while Last Seen and Brothers have an opportunity to broaden the service’s lineup beyond its established favourites. The real question is whether those newcomers can build enough momentum to become Apple’s next long-running hits rather than disappearing into an increasingly crowded streaming calendar.
