Twitter has announced a new feature called Twitter Polls, a means to find out if people like you or not. Yes, this isn’t an exclusive, verified profiles only feature, anyone can create a poll with a few taps and have their opinion swayed by the masses.
If you want the public’s opinion on anything — what to name your piranha, who will win tonight’s game, is Donald Trump’s hair held on by super glue or blue tack; the important questions — Twitter sees themselves as the best place to get answers. For poll creators, it’s a new way to engage with Twitter’s massive audience and understand exactly what people think. For those participating, it’s a very easy way to make your voice heard.
Previously, Twitter’s method of collating information was for people to tweet questions and then have those people force interns to go through the deluge of replies, favourites, retweets and try and make some sense of it all. The only real statistic you could discern was the amount of people who were interested enough in what you tweeted to respond in some form.
Now, you’ll be able to create your own two-choice poll right from the compose box and it will remain live for 24 hours. You can vote on any poll, and how you voted is not shared publicly, meaning you can’t respond with a No when your Great Aunt Elberth asks if people liked her haggis pie.
