Twitter Expands Its Live Streaming Offerings After Signing Deal With Bloomberg

When news that Twitter would partner with Bloomberg for streaming the latter’s news platform 24 hours a day was announced by The Wall Street Journal, little did we know that it was the tip of the iceberg. The freshly wrought deal will have Bloomberg producing news programming specifically for Twitter, with a healthy mix of videos posted by verified Twitter users and live news reported directly from Bloomberg’s global hubs.

However, Bloomberg isn’t the only company that’s going to be streaming on Twitter.

Twelve partnerships with various media companies have been announced by Twitter, with the deal with Bloomberg just being one of them. BuzzFeed News, the PGA Tour, MLB, The Players’ Tribune, and Live Nation are just some of the names that will also begin streaming on Twitter, while some of the partnerships are expansions of existing agreements.

Major League Baseball’s (MLB) agreement will see a weekly 3-hour show produced by the company that features live look-ins from games and highlights. Meanwhile, MorningFeed, a live morning news and current events show broadcast by BuzzFeed, will feature “fire Tweets.” Live Nation will on the other hand offer Twitter users real-time coverage of select concerts and original content, with the first being a live-stream off the Grammy-winning, multiplatform Zac Brown Band that’s expected to happen on May 13.

As can be seen, Twitter is not only exclusively offering its live-streaming services to news platforms, but expanding it to encompass all types of media that its users would find interesting, be it music, sports or entertainment. The move is similar to Snapchat’s Discovery section which plays host to a variety of different outlets.

“Adding these 12 new live deals is a testament to the success of our ‘only-on-Twitter experience,’ combining high-quality streaming video with our only-on-Twitter conversation.”

– Anthony Noto, Chief Operating Officer.

Whether the pivot to live-streaming can help the struggling social-media company evolve into something that can confidently strut about remains to be seen.
