The opening ceremony of the Taiwan Excellence Days was held today in the Star Atrium of the Dubai Mall. Taiwan Excellence Days is a global tour being hosted in Dubai from the 9th to the 12th of September by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

While there may have been a lack of pomp you’d normally associate with such events (there were no marching bands unfortunately), the opening ceremony was still quite a spectacle to behold, as many surprised shoppers, unaware of the event, found to their delight. AbsoluteGeeks were there to cover the opening ceremony and spent much of the time drooling over the many shiny gadgets being displayed, under the watchful eyes of sharply dressed representatives.

Among the many gadgets on display were premiums such as Acer’s Predator Z, a beast of a desktop PC, and the recently revealed Predator 8, Acer’s gaming tablet, in addition to other products from the brand. HTC also had a presence, with a selection of its smartphones on display, including the One M9 and One M9+. One of the things that stopped me in my track was

The opening ceremony itself started off when the Director of the Taiwan Trade Centre, Dubai, Mr. Chang Shy-Perng gave a speech about the continuance of the Taiwan Excellence Days tour and his hope that it would be a resounding success. A smattering of applause followed the ending of his speech and also invited onto the slightly elevated platform were the heads of a few renowned tech companies such as HTC MEA’s president Nikitas Glykas, Dreytek’s Managing Director Renjan George, ZyXEL’s General Manger Muhammad Arsalan Abbasi and D-Link’s CEO Thajin Thomas.
