Samsung may have just unveiled their latest flagship smartphone but that hasn’t stopped the engineers at the South Korean electronics firm from testing a dual-screen smartphone. The company will reportedly carry out a pilot production of the smartphone mid-way through this year.

According to ET News, Samsung has already ordered corresponding components for the prototype. The company is planning to produce only 2,000 to 3,000 Smartphones during the middle of this year and provide them to its major customers rather than regular consumers. The smartphone will be made up of two display panels that can be folded and unfolded. It will apparently be a preliminary version of the rumoured Galaxy X, Samsung’s foldable smartphone.

The prototype can be folded 180 degrees reportedly features a pair of organic light-emitting diode display panels that are connected with a hinge in the middle. Whether the Galaxy X will see the light of day will be contingent on the success of the upcoming prototype.
