Nougat is the next version of Android’s ever updating cycle of deliciously named mobile operating systems. So far only two smartphones in the whole world have it out-of-the-box, LG’s V20 and the Google Pixel. LG is doubling down on Nougat by also preparing its line of G5 smartphones for the upcoming update, beating out Samsung and other Android-based smartphone manufacturers.
However, there is one small catch. Only LG G5 smartphones in Korea will receive the update first. G5s in the Americas, Europe and the rest of Asia will receive the update in the coming few weeks, though there is no exact ETA. Meanwhile, Samsung will begin its beta program for Android Nougat on Wednesday.
Android Nougat lets users run apps side by side with its multi-window view, quickly swap between apps and features Vulcan API for smoother graphics. It’s due to the Vulcan API that Nougat can also Google’s VR platform, Daydream. The notification menu has also been revamped. The menu is now more compact and each notification has more function; double tapping on a notification expands it beyond its normal headline and lets you choose how to interact with notification. For instance, you can immediately reply from the notification itself. Furthermore, you can also change how each app alerts you in the future by holding down on that apps notification.
These are just some of the new features available with the latest version of Android.
