In the wake of Muhammad Ali’s demise Careem, the chauffeur cab booking service in the UAE, has decided to donate 5% of any trip’s value towards combating Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is a degenerative disease that affects the motor system and is what the boxing legend suffered from.

We will be donating 5% of your trip value to combatting Parkinson's. Enter code CHAMP & we'll add 5% to donation. pic.twitter.com/i9oMQHhNIa

Careem is an app-based private cab service available in Dubai. Riders can make requests for immediate or later scheduled pick-ups through the Careem phone app. As of March 2016, Careem is available in 10 countries and 25 cities across the MENASA region with plans to develop other services and products, and expand operations into additional countries in the region in the near future. It competes directly with Uber in the local market.

Commuters who use Careem will be able to use the code “CHAMP” in order to donate 5% of their trips cost. The company also recently started refusing to transport passengers who did not put on their seatbelts, in an effort to reduce the amount of road accidents across the UAE. The code will work until the 11th of June.

Edit: Careem have replied to our enquiry as to which organisation will receive the charitable donations with the following message: “We are still in talks with several organizations, (we) will identify the best fit organization in the next few days.”
