WhatsApp introduces music integration for status updates

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to enhance their status updates with music. This feature, initially spotted in beta testing late last year, is now becoming available to a wider audience through the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.

With this update, users can now add music clips to their photo or video status updates. The music library integrated into WhatsApp is the same one used by Instagram, providing access to a vast collection of songs, artists, and trending tracks.

The process of adding music to a status update is designed to be simple and user-friendly. Users will find a new music button within the status editor. Tapping this button will open the music library, where they can search for specific songs or artists. Once a song is selected, users can choose a 15-second clip for photos or customize the length for video statuses.

When viewing a status with music, the song title and artist name will be displayed. Additionally, viewers will have the option to directly explore the artist’s Instagram profile from within WhatsApp.

This new feature enhances the expressive potential of WhatsApp statuses, allowing users to personalize their updates with music that reflects their mood or complements the visual content. It also creates synergy between WhatsApp and Instagram, aligning the platforms’ features and user experience.

The music integration feature is currently being rolled out gradually to WhatsApp users on the Android beta program. It is expected to become more widely available in the coming weeks.
