WhatsApp could soon let iPhone users juggle three accounts

WhatsApp is preparing to make juggling multiple identities on one iPhone considerably easier, with evidence suggesting the messaging app is working on support for three accounts inside a single installation.

The feature remains under development and has not yet reached beta testers, so there is no confirmed release date. However, the change would extend WhatsApp’s existing multi-account system on iOS, which currently allows iPhone users to keep two accounts inside the main app.

WhatsApp expanded multi-account support on iPhone in June 2026 following months of beta testing. Before that, people wanting separate personal and work accounts often had to rely on WhatsApp Business as a second app, even when they weren’t actually using it to run a business.

The latest development suggests WhatsApp wants to remove more of that friction. According to WABetaInfo, an account selector being tested can accommodate three profiles, with each displaying its name, profile picture and associated phone number. The currently selected account is identified with a checkmark.

More importantly, adding another profile does not appear to mean combining everything into one messy inbox. Each WhatsApp account is expected to retain its own conversations, notifications, privacy preferences, media and backups. Users would be able to move between profiles without repeatedly logging out and signing back in.

Three accounts might sound excessive for someone carrying a single personal number, but the feature makes more sense as mobile users increasingly maintain separate numbers for work, personal communication and other purposes. Dual-SIM and eSIM support have already made keeping multiple phone numbers on one device relatively straightforward; messaging apps increasingly need to accommodate the same behaviour.

There is also a hint that three accounts may not be the final limit. The interface reportedly continues to display an “Add account” option after two profiles are active, and WABetaInfo suggests WhatsApp could eventually support additional accounts.

For now, though, iPhone users should not expect the feature to appear immediately. Since three-account support has yet to become available even through beta testing, WhatsApp could still modify or delay it before a public release.

The interesting part is less about the jump from two accounts to three than the direction WhatsApp is taking. A messaging app once closely tied to one number and one device is steadily becoming more flexible for people whose digital lives no longer fit neatly into a single phone identity.
