This tiny AI recorder could make meeting notes almost effortless

Dedicated voice recorders are getting an AI makeover, and BOYA’s Notra Neo is built around the idea that capturing a conversation is only useful if you can quickly do something with it afterwards.

The compact AI voice recorder can capture in-person conversations, phone calls and Bluetooth calls, automatically switching between recording modes. At 63 x 63 x 8mm and 34.5 grams, it is designed to remain portable, with magnetic attachment and MagSafe compatibility offering an easy way to keep it alongside a smartphone.

Its recording hardware combines two MEMS microphones with a VPU for 360-degree audio capture. BOYA says voices can be picked up from up to five metres away, while AI noise cancellation is rated at up to -30dB. Battery life is claimed at up to 20 hours of continuous recording, with USB-C charging taking around 90 minutes and standby stretching to 365 days.

The more interesting part begins after the recording stops. Notra Neo can transcribe audio across more than 140 languages and identify different speakers, potentially making it useful for interviews, meetings, lectures and longer conversations where manually reviewing an hour of audio is hardly anyone’s idea of productivity.

BOYA has also built generative AI features around those transcripts. Recordings can be converted into summaries, key points, task lists and mind maps, while an Ask AI feature lets users query previously captured conversations. The system supports AI models including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, although the supplied information does not detail exactly how users choose between those models or whether additional subscription requirements apply.

There are also more than 60 templates covering jobs such as meeting minutes, interview notes, class summaries and call reports. That puts the Notra Neo in the increasingly crowded AI note-taking category rather than positioning it as simply another digital recorder.

Storage is slightly more complicated. The device includes 8GB locally, while BOYA advertises cloud storage or synchronisation and claims support for up to 1,000 hours of recordings. That figure should not be mistaken for the capacity of the recorder’s physical storage. Recordings and generated material can be synchronised through the BOYA OS app and web interface using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, with export options including MP3, WAV, DOCX, PDF, TXT, Markdown and SRT.

BOYA is offering a 12 percent early-bird discount using the code NeoEarly12, with shipping scheduled to begin September 4, 2026. The supplied information does not provide the recorder’s regular retail price.

The Notra Neo’s real competition is arguably not another recorder but the smartphone already in everyone’s pocket. Its case rests on whether dedicated microphones, long recording endurance and automated AI organisation can save enough time to justify carrying another device — particularly for people whose working day disappears into meetings, interviews and voice notes.
