Spotify offers two months of Premium Free in response to Apple Music

The competition in the music streaming market is heating up, with Spotify offering a limited-time promotion of two months of Premium service free for new subscribers. This offer comes shortly after Apple Music launched its own promotion, raising questions about whether Spotify’s move is a direct response to attract users considering both platforms.

The free two-month trial applies to Spotify Premium’s Individual Plan and is available until February 17. After the trial period, the subscription will automatically renew at the standard monthly rate of $12. This promotion allows users to experience the benefits of Spotify Premium, including ad-free listening, high-quality audio, and the ability to download music for offline playback, without any initial financial commitment. Users can cancel their subscription before the end of the trial period to avoid being charged.

This promotion coincides with a recent offer from Apple Music, which provided six months of service for $3 ahead of the Super Bowl. While the specifics of the offers differ, both promotions aim to entice new users and potentially sway those undecided between the two services.

One key difference between the two platforms is pricing. Apple Music’s standard plan is $11 per month, slightly less than Spotify Premium’s $12 monthly fee. Spotify last increased its prices in 2024, making its service slightly more expensive than its main competitor.

For current Spotify users who have been tolerating ads, this promotion provides an excellent opportunity to explore the ad-free experience of Premium. Beyond ad-free listening, Premium also includes 15 hours of audiobook listening per month, a valuable addition for book lovers.

Spotify recently announced an 11% growth in its subscriber base in 2024. This new promotion, offering two months of free Premium, could further accelerate its growth by attracting new users and solidifying its position in the competitive music streaming landscape.
