PlayStation Network restored, Sony offers PS Plus bonus

After a nearly 20-hour outage that affected PlayStation Network services, Sony has restored functionality. The outage impacted online gaming, digital purchases, and even the ability to play some single-player titles due to authentication requirements.

Sony initially provided minimal communication during the outage, simply stating that “PSN has been restored.” Later, the company acknowledged an “operational issue” but provided no further details about the cause of the disruption.

As compensation, Sony is offering a 5-day PlayStation Plus extension to existing members. However, this gesture has been met with mixed reactions from users. Many are expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency regarding the outage’s cause, raising concerns about potential security breaches or data leaks. Others feel that the 5-day extension is insufficient, considering the widespread impact of the outage, which affected both PS Plus subscribers and non-subscribers alike. Many users were unable to access even their single-player games, and free-to-play titles were also unavailable.

The lack of detailed information from Sony has fueled speculation among users. Whether Sony will release a more comprehensive explanation remains to be seen. A blog post with further details is possible in the coming week.
