Ooni Volt 2 brings “Pizza Intelligence” to the kitchen

IFA is known for its quirky kitchen gadgets as much as for its high-tech laptops, and this year Ooni provided one of the more memorable food-focused announcements. The company, already a favorite among pizza enthusiasts for its outdoor ovens, used the Berlin stage to unveil the Volt 2, a countertop pizza oven that introduces what Ooni is calling “Pizza Intelligence.”

Behind the catchy branding lies a genuinely interesting idea. The Volt 2 incorporates sensor-based heating technology that dynamically adjusts the balance between the top and bottom elements. The goal is to eliminate cold spots and reduce the temperature swings that often plague countertop ovens, leading to unevenly cooked crusts or toppings. By monitoring the cooking process and making constant micro-adjustments, the Volt 2 promises to deliver more consistent results, even for casual cooks who may not have mastered the fine art of pizza-making.

The oven supports pizzas up to thirteen inches in diameter, making it suitable for most households. Its compact form factor is designed for countertop use, but the real hurdle for indoor pizza ovens remains ventilation. Even the smartest sensor system can’t solve the smoke and heat challenges that come with cooking at high temperatures indoors. Still, for city dwellers or those without outdoor space, the Volt 2 represents a meaningful attempt to bring artisanal-quality pizza within reach.

The big question is whether “Pizza Intelligence” will be more than just a gimmick. If Ooni’s adaptive heating really works as advertised, it could set a new standard for indoor pizza ovens. If not, the Volt 2 may end up remembered as another example of smart tech overselling its usefulness. Either way, it shows how even something as ancient as pizza-making is being pulled into the orbit of AI-inspired gadgetry.
