Call of Duty players got their first hands-on with Modern Warfare 4’s new Kill Block multiplayer mode and a close look at the Aston Martin Dreadnought vehicle at Fanatics Fest in New York this past weekend. The limited demo offered a taste of what Activision is cooking for the next entry in the long-running shooter series, and the studio has now locked in a clearer timeline for the wider rollout.
Call of Duty: Next arrives on August 21 as a global showcase. The event will stream live gameplay, deliver a full multiplayer content briefing, and drop fresh reveals in the days leading into the beta. That beta itself splits into two windows. Early access runs August 21 through 25 for anyone who pre-orders on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, or PC. An open beta follows from August 28 to September 1, available to every platform including the Nintendo Switch 2, no purchase required. Switch 2 pre-orders open August 26, giving Nintendo’s new hardware its first major Call of Duty foothold.
Pre-order incentives arrive earlier. Players who lock in Modern Warfare 4 before Black Ops 7’s Season 05 begins on July 23 instantly receive the Moonlit Pearl universal camo. Completing an additional challenge unlocks the Gilded Ruin universal camo, with the first 100,000 finishers earning a uniquely serialized version. Both camos transfer to Modern Warfare 4 at launch, a familiar tactic designed to drive early sales and keep engagement high across the annual cycle.
A new Kill Block trailer has also surfaced, stitching together footage from the Fanatics Fest floor. Kill Block appears to lean into tight, high-intensity multiplayer spaces, continuing the series’ recent emphasis on mode variety and branded vehicle integrations. The Aston Martin Dreadnought fits that pattern, another licensed machine dropped into the sandbox to generate headlines and cosmetic appeal.
None of this breaks the established Call of Duty rhythm. Annual releases, staggered betas, exclusive early access, and limited-run camos have become standard operating procedure. The Switch 2 inclusion marks a notable expansion, yet it also raises questions about performance parity on less powerful hardware. Serialized cosmetics create artificial scarcity that rewards the quickest or most dedicated players while leaving everyone else with standard versions. Whether Kill Block delivers meaningful new gunplay or simply re-skins existing formulas will only become clear once the beta servers open. For now the machine keeps turning, offering just enough new footage and date stamps to keep the conversation alive through the summer.
