LG unveils the StanbyME 2: a portable TV designed for modern living

LG has launched the StanbyME 2, the follow-up to its unconventional portable TV, in the Gulf region. The new model builds on the original’s niche appeal by adding more flexibility, improved visuals, and expanded functionality, aiming to position the device as both an entertainment hub and a lifestyle accessory.

The most striking update is the StanbyME 2’s detachable screen. With a quick release, the 27-inch display can be removed from its docking stand and repositioned on a wall, tabletop, or carried outdoors. A built-in battery powers up to four hours of use, making it viable for casual movie nights in the garden or quick relocations around the house without hunting for a power outlet.

LG has also introduced features that go beyond traditional TV viewing. The Motion Art Screen allows the device to double as a digital art display, with themes ranging from clocks and posters to personal photo galleries. The Mood Maker function lets users customize ambiance, effectively turning the screen into décor when not in active use.

From a technical standpoint, the StanbyME 2 improves on its predecessor with a QHD resolution panel that offers sharper visuals and adaptive brightness for comfortable viewing in varying lighting conditions. Paired with 9.1.2-channel Virtual Surround Sound and LG’s AI Clear Sound processing, the device aims to deliver an immersive experience regardless of orientation—landscape, portrait, or tabletop.

Running on LG’s webOS, the TV comes preloaded with access to major streaming platforms and supports AirPlay and Google Cast for wireless connectivity. Input can be handled through its touch screen, far-field voice recognition, or a compact magnetic remote.

Beyond entertainment, LG is pitching the StanbyME 2 as a versatile tool for families and professionals. The optional Smart Cam accessory enables video calls and workout guidance, while portability and screen flexibility make it a potential second monitor for remote work.

While it won’t replace a main living room TV, the StanbyME 2 is designed for those who want a screen that adapts to different spaces and activities. By blending lifestyle design with portability, LG is carving out a niche for TVs that don’t just live on the wall but move with their users.

The StanbyME 2 will be available across the Gulf region this summer.
