As with most mid-cycle betas, the focus sits more on stability and small adjustments than flashy additions, yet a few practical changes and one curious code reference stand out.
The Apple TV app now includes an Automatic Downloads toggle that grabs the next two episodes from Continue Watching and clears them once finished. It is a quiet quality-of-life improvement for people who binge on cellular or limited storage. Photos receives a Zoom Photos to Fill option that gently enlarges near-full-frame images to cut down on empty borders, a minor visual tweak that will matter most on older or oddly proportioned displays. The decorative wallpaper effect that arrived in beta 3 when pulling down Notification Center has been pulled, suggesting Apple is still dialing back visual experiments that felt more distracting than useful.
Siri continues its slow interface evolution. The voice picker looks cleaner, a short welcome screen appears for the Search or Ask mode, users can now control how long spoken previews run, and an Accessibility switch forces a live transcription of every request. On newer hardware, a few additional expressive voices are beginning to appear. These are incremental rather than transformative, continuing the pattern seen in recent years where Siri gains polish without suddenly matching the conversational depth of competing assistants.
For those who shoot video, compatible iPhones can now choose Log 2 when recording ProRes. The profile retains more tonal information than the earlier Log standard, giving editors extra room during color work—an update that will please the small but vocal group of professionals who still rely on the iPhone as a secondary camera. Elsewhere, Connectivity Assist can be toggled per Wi-Fi network, and the AirPods section in Control Center offers expanded Adaptive Audio choices.
The most discussed detail sits in the Battery Health strings. New language refers to “the batteries in this iPhone,” the clearest software signal yet that Apple is preparing for a dual-battery design. Dual packs have appeared in various Android flagships and foldables for years as a way to balance capacity, thickness, and thermal performance. Apple’s version, if it arrives, would mark a shift from the single-cell approach that has defined every iPhone since the beginning. Whether it pairs with a thinner chassis, longer life, or simply better heat management remains unknown, but the code leaves little room for doubt that the hardware change is coming.
iPadOS 27 beta 4 carries the same core refinements plus its own collection of bug fixes and performance work. Both builds are available now through Settings for anyone enrolled in the developer program. As always with Apple betas, the real test will be how many of these small changes survive the remaining months of polishing before the public sees them.
