Microsoft ha released its latest update to Copilot, dubbed “Wave 2”. This upgrade brings exciting enhancements to familiar Office applications, introduces new tools like Copilot Pages, and empowers businesses with Copilot agents.

Introducing Copilot Pages: A Collaborative Canvas

Copilot Pages is a dynamic workspace integrated directly into Copilot. This persistent canvas allows users to gather, edit, and share content generated by the AI assistant, facilitating seamless collaboration between multiple individuals. It’s like having a dedicated space within Copilot where ideas can flourish and projects can take shape.

While its functionality might overlap with existing tools, Copilot Pages encourages users to spend more time within the Copilot ecosystem, solidifying its role as Microsoft’s flagship AI solution.

This feature is currently available to those with a Microsoft Entra account and will roll out in the coming weeks. There’s no word yet on a wider release.

Enhanced AI Across Your Favorite Apps

Wave 2 also brings notable updates to several popular Office applications:

  • Word: Gain quick access to web data and information from emails and meetings while writing. A new start experience and inline collaboration with Copilot enhance the writing process. (Coming in late September 2024)
  • Excel: Integrate the Python programming language for advanced analysis and unlock new capabilities for handling unstructured data. (Python functionality is currently in public preview)
  • PowerPoint: Customize your presentations with the new Narrative Builder, allowing for tailored outlines and branded graphics.
  • Teams: Copilot now leverages AI to provide insights on meeting transcripts and chat, helping you catch up on missed information.
  • Outlook: A “Prioritize my inbox” feature will use AI to intelligently organize your emails based on their importance. (Coming in late 2024)
  • OneDrive: Leverage Copilot’s AI to search for specific information within your files, making it easier to find what you need.

Copilot Agents: Transforming the Workplace

For larger organizations, Copilot agents and agent builder present an exciting opportunity for automation and efficiency. These AI-powered agents can perform various tasks, from simple question-and-answer interactions to complex, autonomous operations.

Though currently accessible only to a limited audience, Copilot agents have the potential to revolutionize the workplace once fully adopted by developers and enterprises.

With Wave 2, Microsoft continues to push the boundaries of AI capabilities, transforming the way we interact with Office applications and opening new avenues for automation and productivity. Whether you’re a student, professional, or enterprise user, there’s something for everyone in this exciting update.
