The Odyssey fans just got an expensive new Nolan collectible

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is getting a substantial companion release for anyone who wants to see how the filmmaker assembled his latest large-scale production. Filming the Odyssey: Inside the Making of Christopher Nolan’s Modern Epic is now available, offering 280 pages of behind-the-scenes material from the movie’s production.

Written by James Mottram and published by Insight Editions, the book includes concept artwork, production photography and interviews with Nolan and other members of the creative team. Matt Damon, who stars as Odysseus, provides the foreword.

There are multiple versions available. Barnes & Noble is selling an exclusive edition for $70 featuring a cloth-bound cover and two 8×10 art prints, while the standard hardcover edition is listed at $75. Curiously, that makes the retailer-exclusive package cheaper despite including additional physical extras, at least at the currently listed prices.

The timing makes sense. The Odyssey arrived in cinemas in July 2026 as Nolan’s first feature since Oppenheimer, adapting Homer’s ancient Greek epic around Odysseus’ long journey home following the Trojan War. The film runs 173 minutes and brings together another typically enormous Nolan cast, including Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel and John Leguizamo.

Its production has also attracted attention because of Nolan’s continuing commitment to large-format filmmaking. The Odyssey was shot entirely using IMAX film cameras, making the technical side of the production potentially as interesting as the finished spectacle. That gives a making-of book considerably more to work with than the usual collection of promotional stills and production anecdotes.

The commercial backdrop is equally significant. According to reported box-office figures, The Odyssey has reached around $1.45 billion worldwide, putting it ahead of The Dark Knight Rises and making it Nolan’s highest-grossing movie to date. The film has also received strong critical and audience responses, helping turn what was already a major theatrical event into another substantial hit for the director.

For Nolan followers, however, the biggest attraction of Filming the Odyssey may be access to the process rather than another celebration of the final movie. His productions are famously built around practical filmmaking, complex logistics and carefully controlled technical choices, while detailed behind-the-scenes access tends to arrive only after release.

That makes a 280-page production chronicle particularly well suited to The Odyssey. Between the film’s IMAX photography, physical sets, international production demands and adaptation of one of literature’s oldest surviving stories, there is considerably more to examine than how individual scenes were shot.

The film itself will remain the main event, but for viewers fascinated by how Nolan turns ambitious ideas into unusually physical blockbusters, the making-of book could end up being one of the more revealing pieces of The Odyssey’s extended life.
