Apple Arcade is leaning further into familiar characters and established mobile hits for its October update, with five games joining the subscription service on October 1. The headline addition is Pusheen’s Place, the first officially licensed game built around the internet-famous cartoon cat, alongside River City Survivors and Arcade versions of Terraria, Touchgrind BMX 2 and 4 Pics 1 Word.
Developed by Lively, Pusheen’s Place takes the cosy-game route rather than attempting anything particularly unexpected with the character. Players build and decorate spaces, craft items and collect more than 100 cats, including variations such as Pusheenicorn and Pancake Pusheen. There are also several mini-games, including Snack Stack, Parfait Pop and Batch Match.
It is an obvious fit for Apple Arcade, which has increasingly become a comfortable home for relaxed, character-driven games. Titles including Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom and Cozy Caravan already occupy similar territory, and Pusheen brings another recognisable brand to that part of the catalogue. The bigger question will be whether there is enough depth behind the collect-and-decorate loop to attract players beyond the existing Pusheen audience.
October’s other new original takes a considerably less peaceful approach. River City Survivors turns the long-running River City franchise into a survivors-style action game, throwing players against repeated waves of zombies while randomized upgrades shape each run. More than 20 characters are playable, including Kunio and Riki, while up to two companions can be recruited.
The remaining three releases follow Apple Arcade’s established “Plus” model: existing App Store games repackaged for subscribers without advertising or in-app purchases.
Terraria+ is easily the biggest name of that group. The sandbox action-adventure includes the Bigger & Boulder 1.4.5 update, featuring crossover content from Dead Cells and Palworld. Multiplayer supports up to eight players through Game Center or local Wi-Fi, while the game contains more than 20 biomes to explore.
Touchgrind BMX 2+ brings Illusion Labs’ physics-based stunt cycling game and its distinctive two-finger control system to Arcade. Meanwhile, 4 Pics 1 Word+ offers a subscription version of the long-running picture puzzle game, which its publisher says has reached more than 400 million players worldwide.
The additions underline Apple Arcade’s current balancing act. New exclusives give subscribers something unavailable elsewhere, while established App Store releases add recognizable games without the advertising and microtransactions often associated with mobile gaming. It is less about chasing blockbuster releases and more about steadily making the subscription catalogue broader and easier to justify.
