For Apple geeks, September has its own annual ritual. The invitation drops, the cryptic artwork gets dissected pixel by pixel, calendars are cleared, group chats light up with predictions, and everyone pretends they definitely won’t spend the next two weeks analysing three words on an Apple logo.
That ritual has officially begun.
Apple has confirmed its next major event for September 9, 2026, starting at 10 AM Pacific Time — or 9 PM UAE time. The presentation will be streamed online, while invited journalists and creators are expected to gather at Apple Park and the Steve Jobs Theater in California.
This year’s invitation comes with the phrase “Surprise and shine” and a glossy Apple logo with a bright centre. As usual, Apple isn’t explaining what any of it means, which naturally means the internet will spend the coming days deciding that every colour, reflection and curve is secretly a product specification.
There may actually be more reason than usual to pay attention, though.
Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, but the potentially much bigger story is the company’s long-rumoured first foldable iPhone. Reports have referred to the device as the iPhone Ultra, although neither the name nor the product itself has been confirmed by Apple.
If a foldable does appear, it would instantly become the headline act. Samsung and other Android manufacturers have spent years refining foldable phones, while Apple has watched from the sidelines. Its arrival would therefore be less about inventing a new category and more about showing what Apple believes a foldable needs before it is ready for the iPhone audience.
That raises plenty of questions. How visible will the display crease be? What will Apple do with the hinge? How will iOS adapt to a larger folding screen? And perhaps most importantly, just how painful will the price be?
There could also be another major change hiding behind this year’s launch: Apple may split the iPhone release calendar.
Instead of introducing the entire iPhone 18 family in September, reports suggest the company could focus this event on its premium devices. The standard iPhone 18, second-generation iPhone Air and iPhone 18e could then arrive around March 2027.
If that happens, it would reshape one of the most predictable schedules in consumer technology. September has traditionally meant a new generation of iPhones arriving together. Separating the Pro and mainstream models would give Apple two major smartphone launch windows while putting considerably more attention on its expensive hardware during the holiday shopping season.
None of those product details are official yet. What is official is the date.
So for anyone in the UAE, September 9 at 9 PM is now booked. The snacks, livestream tabs and wildly overconfident predictions are optional — although for Apple geeks, they have become almost as traditional as the keynote itself.
