The G-Wagen goes silent (but don’t worry, they added fake engine noises)

Love off-roading? Crave that sweet, sweet smell of Napa leather? Mercedes has the perfect guilt-free solution for eco-conscious millionaires: the all-electric G-Wagen. This absurdly expensive status symbol gets a green twist with a massive battery, four motors, and the power of roughly 580 horses.

The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology (seriously, who named this thing?) starts at a cool $150K+, a nice premium over the gas-guzzlers. But hey, at least you won’t see carbon emissions as you crawl over those rocks you’ll never actually drive on.

This tank gets serious off-road chops: a fancy ladder frame, independent suspension…all the stuff meant for trails most owners would never dare touch. Mercedes even brags the EQG can handle 35-degree slopes, in case your driveway gets a bit steep.

But that precious battery needs protection! Carbon skid plates (because regular steel is for peasants) keep those precious cells safe on your imaginary adventures.

New EVs getting too quiet for you? Mercedes has you covered with “G-Roar”, their very own fake engine sound pumped through speakers. Because every nature lover wants the soundtrack of a “sonorous V8” as they silently glide through the forest.

Let’s be real, the EQG is about appearances. It looks nearly identical to the gas-guzzling G-Wagens, with just a few glowy bits and minor tweaks. And yes, that rear box is meant for charging cables, not a spare tire. Who needs practicality when you have image?

Inside, it’s classic G-Class excess: carbon fiber, grab handles, touchscreens galore. Because nothing screams “roughing it” like media displays for the backseat passengers.

The electric G-Wagen is less about actual off-roading and more about Mercedes proving even their biggest toys can go electric. Is it absurd? Absolutely. Will the ultra-rich buy it anyway? You bet.
