Yesterday was a big day at the MWC with two major Android OEM’s announcing the latest iteration of their flagship smartphones. Those were, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One (M9).
Unlike the Galaxy S6, the HTC One (M9) had little subtle changes to it than last year’s model, at least from a design perspective. It retained the full aluminum body and 5 inch screen with the same resolution. It did revamp its much criticized camera though. The previous main 4 ultra-megapixel camera that used to disappoint everyone is now on the front and the smartphone now sports a whooping 20MP camera on the back, and the third camera which enabled 3D shots is now gone.
Another notable change with the M9 is the power button that’s now been moved to the side of the phone for easier and more practical access. Some are criticizing the placement though, saying it’s somewhat low on the right side of the phone making it a little difficult to access.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 powered smartphone seems to be an incremental upgrade from last year’s model, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The HTC One is one of the most beautiful smartphones in the market across all operating systems and HTC saw no reason to fix something that isn’t broken. They did address the camera issue with a massive megapixel boost and made some small changes here and there to make for a better experience.
We want our lineup to be the most luxurious in the world,” says Claude Zellweger, leader of HTC’s industrial design team.
We had the chance to have a quick hands on at the event, and we can definitely say that the phone does look super luxurious and sexy, how it performs though is a matter left for when we test the device. Stay tuned with Absolute Geeks for more on this in the few coming weeks.
