Xbox-branded Meta Quest 3S may arrive soon, but don’t expect more power

Xbox and Meta appear to be preparing a new collaboration in the form of a co-branded Meta Quest 3S, potentially launching as early as Tuesday, June 24. According to recent reports, this version of the headset will carry Xbox branding and come with a higher price tag of $399, about $100 more than the standard Meta Quest 3S.

What users can expect for the extra cost is largely cosmetic and accessory-focused. The rumored bundle includes the headset in a green-and-black Xbox-themed colorway, an Xbox wireless controller, a three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and Meta’s Elite Strap accessory, typically sold separately. The internals, however, appear to remain unchanged from the base Quest 3S. That means users will find the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset and 128GB of storage onboard.

While this package may appeal to brand loyalists or those looking for a more complete starter kit, it doesn’t seem to offer any performance enhancements or exclusive software features. The lack of unique Xbox VR content also means the headset functions essentially as a repackaged Quest 3S with added Xbox-flavored perks.

That said, there is some utility in the bundle for existing Xbox users. Meta Quest devices have supported Xbox Cloud Gaming since late 2022, allowing players to access their Game Pass library through a virtual theater-like experience. The inclusion of a compatible controller and Game Pass trial could offer a more streamlined entry point for users interested in integrating their Xbox and VR experiences.

Neither Microsoft nor Meta has officially confirmed the existence of the Xbox-branded Quest 3S, but the companies have a precedent for these types of collaborations. Earlier this month, Xbox unveiled co-branded handhelds with Asus under the ROG Ally line, reinforcing its strategy of expanding the Xbox brand into third-party hardware ecosystems.

This potential release follows reports that Microsoft has paused development on a first-party handheld console to focus instead on enhancing the Windows 11 gaming experience. If accurate, the Xbox Quest 3S could be another step in Microsoft’s broader approach to extending its gaming platform through partnerships rather than proprietary hardware.
