WhatsApp is continuing to advance its generative AI-powered assistant, Meta AI. According to WABetaInfo, a new feature currently in development for WhatsApp beta on Android v2.24.14.20 will enable Meta AI to analyze and edit photos.
The upcoming feature will allow Meta AI to identify objects and provide detailed information about the photos users share. WhatsApp is testing a new button that will let users manually share their photos with Meta AI. Additionally, the AI chatbot will have the capability to edit these photos based on text prompts provided by the user.
Users will retain control over their uploaded photos, with the option to delete them from Meta AI through WhatsApp. Although this feature is still in the works and not yet available to beta testers, it is expected to be released in a future update of the app.
Meta AI, introduced in September last year, is accessible via a dedicated button at the top of the Chats tab. The AI chatbot has already been handling images, capable of generating new ones from text prompts and user topics. The “Imagine with Meta” feature allows users to create images in one-on-one and group chats by typing “@Meta AI [prompt]” in the text field. The “Reimagine” feature lets users enhance images shared by friends in group chats.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is reportedly working on another image-related feature that will enable users to generate their own images with Meta AI. This will involve taking a set of photos and feeding them to the AI for processing.
