Vivaldi has released version 7.5 of its Chromium-based web browser, introducing several notable features aimed at improving both usability and privacy. The update’s headline addition is the ability to customise Tab Stack colors, allowing users to visually organise their browsing sessions with greater ease.
Tab Stacks, Vivaldi’s approach to grouping related tabs, can now be assigned unique colours for faster identification. This builds on similar tab grouping features available in other browsers like Chrome, but Vivaldi’s implementation offers a more refined design with better integration into its existing UI aesthetics. Users can edit a Tab Stack by right-clicking it and selecting “Edit Stack,” where they can name the group and choose a colour to distinguish it from others.
The update also includes a redesigned right-click menu for tabs, making common actions such as opening new tabs, managing stacks, or moving tabs between windows more intuitive. This reorganisation is intended to streamline workflows, particularly for users who manage numerous tabs across multiple windows.
Privacy enhancements are a key part of Vivaldi 7.5, with the browser now supporting DNS over HTTPS (DoH). Users can set a custom DNS provider specifically for Vivaldi, encrypting DNS queries to prevent tracking at the network level and enhancing overall browsing privacy.
In addition to its major features, Vivaldi 7.5 introduces several smaller improvements:
- Address Bar fixes, resolving focus and suggestion glitches along with dropdown inconsistencies.
- Enhanced built-in Ad Blocker, now supporting badfilter, strict3p, and strict1p rules for more effective content filtering.
- Bookmarks and Notes improvements, offering clearer visual feedback for drag-and-drop organisation.
- Updates to Mail and Calendar, including smarter email threading and better handling of calendar invites.
- Dashboard and Widgets upgrades with layout adjustments, improved transparency, and enhanced drag-and-drop functionality.
- Quick Commands improvements, now displaying synced tabs and handling errors more reliably.
Vivaldi 7.5 also addresses multiple stability issues and bug fixes, including problems that caused tabs to crash or menus to malfunction, which should result in a smoother user experience overall.
The browser continues to position itself as an alternative for users seeking customisability and privacy beyond what mainstream options provide. Vivaldi 7.5 is now available for download across Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad, and Android platforms.
