Spotify Expands AI Playlist Tool to 40+ New Countries, Targeting Global Premium Users

Spotify is continuing its push into AI-powered music curation with a broader rollout of its AI Playlist feature, now available in more than 40 additional countries. This expansion, which includes regions across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean, is aimed exclusively at Premium users and maintains English as the sole supported language for now. It marks a notable step in Spotify’s ongoing efforts to fine-tune personalized listening through machine learning, while also expanding user engagement beyond traditional playlists.

The AI Playlist feature, still in beta, was introduced last year and enables users to generate custom playlists simply by describing a mood, activity, or even something as abstract as a color or emoji. By processing these prompts, Spotify assembles a set of tracks based on individual preferences, listening history, and broader music trends. While this tool taps into personalization, it’s also part of a larger trend among streaming platforms leveraging AI to drive user retention and differentiate their services in a saturated market.

Users can access the tool through the “+” button in the Your Library tab or by searching “AI Playlist” in the app. They’re encouraged to experiment with different prompt styles, from genre-driven requests like “Afrobeat tracks to heat up the dance floor” to more situational ones like “workout music to make my ex jealous.” The tool is interactive, allowing real-time refinements—users can ask for happier, more upbeat, or genre-specific tweaks to dial in the desired vibe.

Spotify’s move to extend this feature comes amid increasing competition in the audio streaming space, where AI-driven tools are becoming central to platform stickiness. While the AI Playlist is far from perfect, its growing availability signals Spotify’s intention to stay ahead in shaping how listeners discover and organize music—especially in international markets where playlist culture plays a key role in digital music consumption.

Available markets as of April 24, 2025: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Burundi, Canada, Curaçao, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Islands, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand Nigeria, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, Tonga, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
