Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, is finally getting a long-awaited intelligence boost in iOS 18, thanks to the integration of Apple Intelligence. However, fans eager to experience the full extent of Siri’s new capabilities will have to exercise patience, as some key features are reportedly delayed until iOS 18.4, slated for release in spring 2025.
One of the most anticipated upgrades is Siri’s deeper integration with apps, allowing for more complex actions and interactions. For example, users will eventually be able to ask Siri to search for specific workouts in Apple Fitness+ or locate podcast episodes, and even execute multi-app commands. Developers will also have the ability to define custom actions for Siri within their own apps, expanding her potential even further.
Another feature slated for 2025 is on-screen awareness, which will enable Siri to understand and interact with content displayed on your screen, such as extracting addresses from messages and adding them to contacts.
Despite the delay of these major features, Siri will still see some improvements this fall. The most notable is the integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing users to seamlessly switch to the powerful chatbot for more complex queries. Additionally, Siri’s visual interface will receive a subtle makeover, replacing the glowing orb with a border-hugging glow that won’t obstruct your view.
While the full Siri upgrade might not arrive until next year, the upcoming iOS 18 update promises a taste of what’s to come for Apple’s virtual assistant.
