Samsung has officially launched what it claims is the world’s first OLED monitor with a 500Hz refresh rate. First showcased at CES 2025, the Odyssey OLED G6 is now available for pre-order in several Southeast Asian markets including Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. While availability in other regions remains unannounced, a broader global release is expected to follow.
The Odyssey OLED G6 (model G60SF) is a 27-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440) built on Samsung’s QD-OLED panel technology. Its headline feature is the 500Hz refresh rate, which is paired with an ultra-fast 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time. These specs are aimed at competitive gamers who demand the lowest latency and smoothest motion possible, particularly in fast-paced genres like esports shooters and racing simulators.
The panel supports both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible standards to minimize screen tearing and stutter. It also meets the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, offering improved contrast ratios and deeper blacks compared to conventional LCD panels. Although the display is rated for peak brightness up to 1,000 nits, users will likely see those levels only during specific HDR scenarios, not in regular content.

Burn-in is a known concern with OLED technology, particularly with static interface elements. To address this, Samsung includes automatic brightness reduction for static content, alongside a dedicated OLED Safeguard+ system designed to mitigate long-term screen degradation. An anti-reflective “Glare Free” coating has also been applied to the panel to improve visibility in bright environments.
Color performance appears to be another focus for Samsung. The Odyssey OLED G6 is Pantone Validated, supporting over 2,100 Pantone colors and more than 110 verified skin tones. This may appeal to creators and streamers who prioritize accurate color rendering in their workflows.
The monitor features a thermal solution that uses dynamic heat dissipation via pulsating heat pipes. This system leverages a vapor-based coolant to dissipate heat more efficiently than traditional graphite solutions, which could help maintain performance stability during extended use.
In terms of pricing, the Odyssey OLED G6 is listed at SGD 1,488 (approximately USD 1,147). While premium by most standards, the cost aligns with the high-end features and early adopter status of OLED panels in the high refresh rate gaming segment.
Samsung has not disclosed when the monitor will become available in markets beyond Southeast Asia, but given its global presence and previous release strategies, additional territories are likely to follow soon.
