Redmi launches budget-friendly smart projector for under $100

Redmi has introduced its latest home entertainment device—the Projector 3 Lite—priced at just around $96 (699 yuan), aiming to bring a solid viewing experience to budget-conscious consumers. Compact, lightweight, and feature-rich, the 3 Lite is positioned as an entry-level projector with capabilities that stretch beyond its price point. It’s currently available on JD.com and will go on sale in China starting April 22.

Despite the low price, the projector includes some practical features typically found in more expensive models. Its fully enclosed optical engine is paired with a full-glass lens array, which helps maintain sharp visuals even when projecting at angles up to 20 degrees. Combined with a quieter cooling system that reduces fan noise by 2dB(A), it’s better suited for quiet environments like bedrooms or late-night movie watching.

Visual performance is handled by a 1080p-capable engine with 180 CVIA lumens of brightness—suitable for darker environments where ambient light is limited. With a 1.2:1 throw ratio, the projector can display up to a 100-inch screen from a relatively short distance. It also includes SGS certification for low blue light emission, reducing strain during long viewing sessions.

Internally, the projector runs on a quad-core Amlogic T950S chip with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. While modest, it’s enough to power streaming apps and handle Xiaomi’s HyperOS Connect platform for integration into smart home setups.

The Projector 3 Lite offers quick setup thanks to its ToF laser sensor, which provides automatic focus and keystone correction. According to Redmi, it delivers a 20% improvement in focus speed and a 13% faster image correction compared to previous models. It’s designed to be plug-and-play—just turn it on and it self-adjusts for optimal clarity.

For connectivity, users get HDMI with ARC, USB 2.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and dual-band Wi-Fi for wireless casting. It also includes a Bluetooth remote with voice command support, making it easier to browse and control apps.

Weighing just 1.2kg and measuring under 15cm in height, the projector is easy to move between rooms or pack up for portable use, making it a convenient solution for small apartments or travel.

Redmi’s latest projector shows how far entry-level home tech has come, offering practical smart features, voice control, and decent display capabilities—all for under $100.
