In a low-key move, Qualcomm has introduced its latest mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.
This new chipset, which was discreetly added to the company’s website over the weekend, is poised to succeed the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, bridging a gap in the company’s product lineup by skipping a second-generation version of the 4nm chip.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 boasts enhancements in AI performance, particularly benefiting features like activity tracking and call noise cancellation. It closely resembles the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, albeit with minor downgrades in CPU and display capabilities.
While both the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and 7s Gen 2 feature an octa-core CPU with four 2.4 GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores, the former has a slightly lower clock speed for its efficiency cores, running at 1.8 GHz compared to the 7s Gen 2’s 1.95 GHz. Additionally, the 6 Gen 3 supports displays with up to Full HD+ resolution at 120 Hz refresh rate, whereas the 7s Gen 2 can handle 144 Hz.
Other notable features of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 include an Adreno 710 GPU, support for both LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E. In terms of camera capabilities, the chipset can handle a 48 MP single sensor for continuous reads, 32 MP and 16 MP dual sensors, or up to 200 MP photo capture.
Qualcomm has not issued an official press release regarding the chipset, and its availability to smartphone manufacturers remains unclear. Nonetheless, this new addition to Qualcomm’s portfolio is expected to bring enhanced performance and features to a range of upcoming mid-range smartphones.Sources and related content
