Nothing has officially confirmed that its upcoming flagship, the Nothing Phone 3, will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. This marks the most powerful processor the company has integrated into one of its devices to date.
Nothing CEO Carl Pei shared details about the new chipset, highlighting significant performance gains over the previous model. According to Pei, the Phone 3 will deliver a 36% increase in CPU speed, an 88% boost in GPU performance, and a 60% improvement in neural processing unit (NPU) capabilities compared to the Nothing Phone 2. He noted that these enhancements will translate to a noticeably snappier user experience.
Pei also emphasized that the upgrade goes beyond raw power. “We wanted to create a balanced experience,” he said. “Everything else in the phone has improved, so we needed a stronger chip to support those advancements. People spend hours on their phones daily, so our focus is on building a holistic and smooth experience.”
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, while slightly below the Snapdragon 8 Elite in specifications, offers several notable features including a unique CPU architecture without efficiency cores, enhanced AI processing, improved 4K low-light video recording, and support for XPAN wireless audio technology.
With this chipset confirmation, the Nothing Phone 3 is shaping up to be a significant upgrade in both performance and everyday usability compared to its predecessor. The phone is set to launch on July 1, with expectations high that Nothing will deliver its most refined smartphone to date.
